Spoilabox - July 2017

I can hardly believe it's July already, well 7th July as I write this! The months are really flying by this year and as they do my monthly treats are stacking up.  It was with great anticipation that my Spoilabox arrived again this week, particularly as it arrived amid a truly challenging day!

This is the second month of my subscription to Spoilabox and also only their second month so I'm still very much surprised by what they contain.  It's lovely having absolutely no idea what's coming (bar the odd spoiler of course!) and, yet again, I'm thoroughly pleased with both the contents and the service.  The box was dispatched on almost the first day of the month and arrived without hassle via My Hermes who this time left it in my meter cupboard (a whole day earlier than they had estimated, bonus!).  Again the contents was well packaged with a sturdy cardboard outer shell and a pretty tissue paper wrap inside.  All the products arrived intact with no damage which is always welcome after you hear such horror stories from the packaging of some products!

On to the contents
This time the box contained eight products - 6 full-sized and two samples.  The full size products total a rrp in excess of £30 so not a bad haul for the £13. 99+ p&p of the box although I think I would like to see some more higher end products in the future (which I think will come as the box gains momentum, it's hard getting those bigger names on board in the early days!)

Two bottles of Korres shower gel
I'm not entirely sure why there were two of these in the box but I'm not arguing!  The higher value product of this months subscription, one really smells lovely, one is perhaps not to my taste but I think will make a good gift.  Looking into it I love the products ethos and look forward to seeing how I get on with them - I'm loving trying products I've never bothered really looking at before and finding out they suit our way of life!

Boozi Body Care
I love this hand-cream! The smell is divine and as soon as I popped a sample onto my hand I couldn't stop myself from going back for a sniff! The little canister it comes in is very useful too as it will fit nicely into my little mummy bag (you know, the bag where you have to cram provisions in for every eventuality when you have kids!) and there's no danger of it getting crushed and exploding everywhere.  Definitely my new go to hand cream!

Betty Hula
These are the tiniest samples I think I ever did see!  But they're super cute all the same!  I think there's probably just enough to give a brief introduction to the products, an oil and a moisturising cream, but I doubt there's enough to really get me hooked.  I believe the next box will contain more Betty Hula products though so definitely one to keep an eye on.

Naked Marshmallows
Handmade marshmallows, how can you go wrong?!  I got the candyfloss flavour and I have to say they're the best marshmallows I've ever eaten!  To be fair, I've only had the shop bought dried out variety previously, never homemade, but I simply can't believe the difference! These are so soft and gooey... the flavour is a bit different and I'm not sure I'd pick the same again, oh and they're very rich so you'd only want one or two at a time, but these will definitely be finding their way into my shopping basket some time in the future!

Tony Moly
Another face-mask - I seem to be amassing these at the moment via the various boxes.  It's not that I don't want them, I'm intrigued by all the different versions and look forward to pampering myself sometime, I just haven't had the time to do so yet and I also want to look into them all a bit further.  I think face-masks are one area where some nasties can sneak in and before I start using them I'd like to learn a little more about their ingredients (in general, not necessarily just this one!)

Fish Scale Brush
I think this can be put down as the random element of the box! I love it!! Apart from the fact that it's a bit different and I love different, it's so so soft!  I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for and I probably should gift it on to my sister who would also really love it but I just can't part with this one!

So overall I think I can safely say this box is another big hit!  I'm looking forward to seeing how the business grows over the next few months.

Wobble board

When it comes to toys in our household we've always tried to keep the number we own down.  Don't get me wrong, we have a lot of toys!  Many of these have been inherited from an older cousin and others, like the lego collection have grown because we get just as much enjoyment from it as the six year old does!  With the baby I'm trying to make more of a conscious effort to limit what we get her, specifically the plastic tat.  She has a lot from the boy obviously, but most of her new toys have been chosen to stimulate imagination rather than directed play with flashing lights and limited functionality. I'm also more conscious these days of the impact throw away toys have on the environment and also on their effects when children are exposed to some of the nasty chemicals they can contain.  With this in mind, recently most of our toy purchases have been of a wooden nature: peg dolls, balls, eggs, puzzles... you get the idea. Unfortunately, a lot of these ...

Artemis and Xena

So, in my quest to find the perfect subscription box, this month I decided to give a little known box called Artemis and Xena a go. At first glance I'd dismissed this one as it appeared to be aimed more at a younger teen market and, sadly, I'm very much not in that demographic these days! However I kept coming back to it as it looked like it might meet my desire for a little bit of everything. My experiences with Treatbox and Birchbox had taught me that I don't like just getting makeup (which rules out so many boxes!) but do like getting a bit (which rules out Treatbox); I like getting a little something to eat, a bit of jewellery, a bit of stationary... Yeah, I'm pretty fussy really aren't I?!? A & X looked like it might have this heady mix. It didn't disappoint! At the beginning of the month I have to admit I got a little nervous, my box was late despite a prompt dispatch notice on the first of the month and I began to wonder if I'd been draw...

Birchbox - July 2017

I've uhmed and ahhed about posting this one, you know, if you haven't got something nice to say then you shouldn't say it kinda thing, but after seeing others be really disappointed with Birchbox and frequently seeing their offers designed to entice you in I've decided to put this out there. Maybe I'll return to them one day but this is where I'm at right now... I had a really bad month in July (seems to be a running theme at the moment, life is very trying right now) and, in a moment of weakness, I’m ashamed to say I fell for one of Birchboxes two for one offers.  These involve you purchasing their box of the month and them sending you a mystery box with another five items.  I partly justified this to myself because I fancied trying one of the products in July’s box and partly because I had a plan for the additional two drawer boxes they send their product in. I won’t be making the mistake again (seriously, I’ve even hidden them from my facebook feed beca...
