Glossybox - July 2017

As I ordered last months Glossybox so late it feels like this months has come super early! I actually uhmed and ahhed about opening it today when it arrived thinking that I should probably save it for later in the month, but I am weak willed and in need of a treat so that resolution lasted no longer than a few minutes!

Being my second month into the subscription, money was automatically taken for this box on the 1st of the month with no intervention from myself (remember, if you order Glossybox make sure you do so before the 15th of the month and cancel by this date if you don't want to have to pay for next months as well).  Dispatch was reasonably quick, a week into the month, and delivery painless from Royal Mail - complete with tracking details which is always a nice touch.

The box was well packaged with a strong cardboard outer postage box (it has glossybox written all over it so you can't really conceal what it is!) and a sturdy inner box.  This month is the start of a summer special with this box and the next containing custom artwork on the box - nothing fancy, just the words Hello Summer in a fancy font, but it adds a little something to the whole thing.  Inside the box the contents are wrapped with tissue paper and tied up with ribbon.  The box also smells gorgeous! A lovely per-fumy scent wafts out as soon as you open it. At first I thought this came from the products but I think it's actually an added touch and I love it!  It's these little details which makes it feel like you're really getting something a bit extra for you money!

Onto the contents: the box contained three full-sized items and two very generous samples giving a total rrp value of over £70 worth of products (based on the full sized values) which isn't bad for the £13.25 price!  The theme this month was summer getaways and the products certainly seem to follow this nicely.

Spectrum M Collections - Small Fan Brush
I've been intrigued by these make-up brushes for a while and look forward to giving it a go.  It's a small-sized version but actually feels pretty substantial to me and I'm sure it will be of use as I'm often a bit heavy handed with powder application.  The brush itself is lovely and soft and I'm sure won't cause any irritation.

Monu Professional Skincare - Monuspa Sun Lotion
I haven't heard of this one before (not unusual, I'm not very up there with all the latest and greatest products as you're probably beginning to tell!)  This is a generous sample size that will definitely allow me to see how we get on with it - I say we, after-sun always feels like a family product! The ingredients look just my kind of thing and the scent is lovely, citrus and fresh not flowery like these things often are.  I think this might be useful on our summer travels and the sample size perfect for packing.

Elgon - Deliwash Cleansing Conditioner
I've been reading up on co-washing of late not just for my unruly locks but also for the kids who seem to get very dry and tangly with the usual shampoo suspects.  The premis is that by washing with conditioner alone (or washing first with conditioner followed by shampoo) you prevent product build up and damage to your hair. - it's a particular favourite method for those with curly hair but can be used by all! It will be interesting to give this one a go and see how we get on.  The conditioner smells gorgeous and the ingredients good so I can't wait for my morning shower!

Papanga - Spiral Hairbands
My hair is getting pretty long and it's as thick as ever so I'm eternally in search of bands that will support the mummy tied back do I'm invariably sporting.  I actually saw some bands like these in Primark the other day and wondered what they were.  Unlike usual hair ties they are a spiral and I'm intrigued to see whether they will hold my hair or just get all tangled up!  I shall let you know my verdict!

Bellapierre Cosmetics - Banana Setting Powder
Lastly but certainly not least, a full-sized (but small to me) pot of setting powder.  Again I've been wondering about giving a decent powder a go for a while now so this, teamed up with the Spectrum brush, is definitely a welcome addition to my make-up bag.  It'll be interesting to see if the yellowy colour will suit my complexion - it must be a nightmare for boxes like this to make sure everyone gets the right product!

So again, I'm super pleased with this box!  I had decided to cancel after this box as having two on the go seems very indulgent and also gives me no wriggle room to try anything else, but... I think I'll give both this and Spoilabox just one more month and then make up my mind, August is, after all, my birthday month so I can justify a little extra, right?!

Birchbox - July 2017

I've uhmed and ahhed about posting this one, you know, if you haven't got something nice to say then you shouldn't say it kinda thing, but after seeing others be really disappointed with Birchbox and frequently seeing their offers designed to entice you in I've decided to put this out there. Maybe I'll return to them one day but this is where I'm at right now... I had a really bad month in July (seems to be a running theme at the moment, life is very trying right now) and, in a moment of weakness, I’m ashamed to say I fell for one of Birchboxes two for one offers.  These involve you purchasing their box of the month and them sending you a mystery box with another five items.  I partly justified this to myself because I fancied trying one of the products in July’s box and partly because I had a plan for the additional two drawer boxes they send their product in. I won’t be making the mistake again (seriously, I’ve even hidden them from my facebook feed beca...

Cheats Maltloaf

Ok, so it's not really a malt-loaf, but it does have the characteristics of one whilst being a super easy recipe and much nicer, in my opinion, to those shop bought lunch box ones you can get (and much healthier!)  I've been experimenting with this recipe for several months now and think I've finally cracked it.  Would love to hear your thoughts if you decide to give it a go! A post shared by Amy Elizabeth (@mummytreatsandtreasaures) on Jan 8, 2018 at 12:22pm PST Ingredients 1 cup of brewed Earl Grey tea 3 Wheatabix (or other such cereal - we quite like the Tesco own brand ones!) 1 cup of sultanas 1 tbsp honey (I've left this out before and it's still a nice cake just a bit more tart) 1 cup self raising flour 1 tsp baking powder Peel of one orange finally grated Splash of orange juice Method Place the sultanas, Weatabix (broken up), honey and tea in a bowl and mix Leave for at least two hours to soak (can leave in the fridge overnight if y...

Glossybox - January 2018

I think Glossybox is the one box I've stuck with longer than all the others and that's quite possibly because I'm still finding uses for the majority of the products they supply. This month is no different although it did come with quite a big let down, a box of multi nutritional supplements - something I can't take safely whilst breastfeeding my little one ☹️ That aside though, overall I'm still impressed with their box, enough that I'm going to keep the subscription going for another month! (Remember, if you do want to unsubscribe from Glossybox, you need to do so by the 14th of the month or you'll automatically roll your subscription over another month - I'm hearing rumours that it's also a lot less painless a process if you pay through PayPal!) A post shared by Amy Elizabeth (@mummytreatsandtreasaures) on Jan 18, 2018 at 12:40pm PST Onto the box itself We're back to the regular pink glossybox this month after their foray ...
