Through a series of events I won't go into I got a chance to give Glossybox a try in June. I've been eyeing this box up for a while. On paper it looks similar, if not identical, to Birchbox, which you'll remember I wasn't too bothered about (but feel free to use my sign-up url if you want to give it a go!) and I'd pretty much decided I wouldn't bother with it. Then June's box came up and I became a little more interested due to them featuring some products I fancied giving a try.
Ordering was easy and the 50% off offer they're running in June an absolute bonus, especially as they've also bunged in a couple of other products for new sign ups! Delivery too was fast and thankfully the Royal Mail delivery guy had no problem with leaving it in a safe place (unlike a recent DHL delivery which saw me trekking across the village to pick up from a random depot!)
First impressions were also heightened by the considerably bigger box than Birchbox and although bigger doesn't always mean better, in this case it certainly did! The box was packaged well and the contents, wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon, certainly gave a luxurious feel. The box everything came in was simple and solid, it doesn't have the appeal of being a mini-drawer like Birchbox but I'm sure it will come in useful all the same especially as it's bigger.
On to the products: these definitely came with more of a wow factor than Birchbox too! First up is the amount contained within the box: 8 items, five of which were full sized, one a generous sample and the two decent samples. Like Birchbox, Glossybox is designed to give you a sample of the higher end of beauty and make-up products and, since I haven't really got a clue about these things, they were typically brands I've never heard of but, looking around, appear to be well respected.
I'm not going to go into what exactly was contained within the box, there's plenty of posts around already (as I'm really really late at posting this!) and you can see from the photos. There was an insightful product card with the box which talked through the key points about each product including hints on how to use them and the rrp (I have to say, I don't think I'll ever pay £100+ for some eye cream, but it's been nice giving it a try all the same!) There's also a sneaky peek at what's going to be inside July's box which I'm quite looking forward to.
Incentive wise, like Birchbox used to have, Glossybox has it's own incentives programme called Glossydots. Subscribers can earn "dots" by reviewing the monthly products and also by referring people (if you use my link I'll get some dots and you'll get 50% off, win win!) The main crux of these is that if you earn enough you will get your next box free which seems a nice little perk but will definitely keep you subscribed for quite a while if you want to use it! Glossydots did highlight what a failure the mobile version of the Glossybox website is though as it was impossible to find my link or much detail about them on my phone. This seems to be an overall problem with the mobile site with lots of key information missing.
So overall, yes, I think I like this box. This is a good job as I subscribed after the 15th so I will be getting July's box too! If you do decide to give it a try I suggest trying at the beginning of the month as the cut off for unsubscribing can catch you out if you're not aware.
I'm looking forward to seeing what's in the next one!
