I'd hoped to have been writing this to you at the beginning of the August but, as is typical, my Spoilabox was delivered about an hour after we set off on holiday! So disappointing as I'd been expecting it several days earlier but a nice surprise to return to after the holiday blues set in!
This is actually my last box from them for a while, as one of the more expensive boxes (when you take into account the hefty delivery fee) I just can't justify the outlay in the run up to Christmas. I had thought I would keep this one and unsubscribe from Glossybox but I'm actually really enjoying their boxes at the moment (and they're cheaper!) So, as an aside, I can confirm that unsubscribing from Spoilabox is nice and easy (provided you turn your mobile browser to desktop view!) Handy if you're dipping your toes into their water's as it comes with no hidden hurdles. This is unlike some subscriptions, Glossybox I'm looking at you, which require you to unsubscribe by a certain date (the 14th if you're interested).
Like last month, this box was part of a rolling subscription, so no action was required on my part to order it. Unlike last month, Spoilabox have changed their payment system. All subscribers are now billed on the first day of the month as opposed to your sign up date (I'm assuming when you newly subscribe money will be taken straightaway and then on the 1st for the next months box). This helps when budgeting for boxes I find but also means if you've got a few on the go they're all billed at the same time. Definitely something to be aware of, especially if you need to cancel before you're next billed.
Spoilabox have also changed their delivery company. At first I thought this was a great thing having had much more luck with Royal Mail in the past but when it came to it, I actually really missed My Hermes! I missed the delivery updates that the latter constantly gave and, despite their reputation, they were fantastic at popping my parcel in a secure place if I wasn't around - unlike Royal Mail who return the parcel to the depo, prevent you picking it up for 24 hours and require a lengthy wait and identification to retrieve! I think, had I got the updates that My Hermes provided, I probably would have hung around for a little longer before we set off on our travels and received my parcel. With RM I was left guessing as to when and whether it would turn up!
Packaging wise the box was, as usual, packaged well and securely and the contents inside wrapped in a lovely decorated tissue paper. Along with the products a card was also included giving details about what I'd received. It's all lovely and I can't fault it but I do quite like the extra little touches that boxes like Glossybox and Treatbox give with their ribbons and noodly bits. I expect this is something that will develop over time though and if I just had this box on it's own I'd be more than happy with it!
Onto the products and it was another great one with four full-sized products and two samples!
Joseph's Popcorn
This gourmet popcorn is amazing! It tastes devine and I've already hoovered up nearly all of it! It's very sweet, so you don't need a lot of it in any one sitting, and perfectly crunchily popped. The flavour is also one that I couldn't easily replicate at home, Belgian white chocolate infused with vanilla bean. Definitely a change from my usual poppy goodness!
Freedom Eyeshadow Palette
My first thought when I opened this was that it was just a cheap eye shadow palette and probably not worth giving it a go. What do I know?! It's actually not bad, as far as my limited eye shadow experience goes that is! I got the Today's Tonight colour scheme and it works for me perfectly.
Bettyhula Moisturising Cream
This cream smells wonderful! I've actually squirrelled it away as a gift for someone as I really don't need any more moisturising cream right now - one of the downsides of getting all these boxes, you amass lots of cream!
Nügg Face Mask
This is the first of the subscription box face masks I've actually got around to trying! Firstly because I liked the look of the ingredients and secondly because, unlike all the others, its instructions said it only needed ten minutes and I can't usually grab much longer than this to myself! As it turned out, it probably could have done with a bit longer but I was still impressed with the results, lovely clean smooth and nourished skin, who could argue with that!
Nior London samples
I have to admit I haven't had time to properly look at these samples but on first glance they look like a nice size to get an idea of the product and I'm intrigued to give them a go. If I'm impressed enough I'll report back to you!
So, overall, another great box from Spoilabox and I'm sure I'll revisit a subscription when I'm feeling a little flusher! The fact that it's been so easy to cancel as well definitely means I'm more likely to give it another go. It's a box that's still in its infancy but definitely shows great promise. Give it a go if you can and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
