Spoilabox - June 2017

June is here, how did that happen?!? Half way through the year and month five of my subscription box journey.

This month I decided to take a punt on a brand new never seen before box called Spoilabox. A bit of a risk as you can never quite be sure if the quality is going to be worth the hype but I was reassured slightly by the partnership the owner had with a Facebook group I'm in.

I wasn't disappointed!

First I think I should mention the fantastic customer service which I think is just as important to these things as the contents, if not more - a box can be the most wonderful box in the world but if you don't have a good experience dealing with the company when you have trouble it can seriously tarnish your whole experience.  Due to a slight mishap with the address my box went on walkabout during delivery.  I feared the worse, that not only the delivery service had stuffed it somewhere never to be seen again but also that, as it was a new box, the supplier wouldn't be able to do anything but assure me that they would investigate (I was also kicking myself that I'd paid on my debit card, I usually use credit or PayPal for things like this as they offer a bit more protection).  After a quick tour around the neighbours asking if they'd taken in the delivery and having several conversations about where their parcels have ended up in the past, in a last ditch attempt I sent an email to see if Spoilabox could give me any help.  Surprisingly, even though it was evening when I emailed, Lucy, the owner of the business emailed me straight back and was amazingly helpful in getting everything sorted.  I honestly couldn't ask for more from her and am even more drawn to the box because of it.

And then to the box itself...

First impressions are that it's a sort of grown-up version of a pamper box.  Unlike Birchbox it contains more than just make-up and beauty products, with other little treats to help boost your happiness.  I'm new to all this beauty thing so the brands don't overly mean much to me but they certainly feel like a nice little treat at the beginning of the month.

The box contained:

Anatomicals body lotion
This is huge and feels like it will last me ages!

Anatomicals facemask
I've never tried a sheet mask before and I'm beginning to see they're a bit of a craze right now, interested to see what all the hype is about!

Makeup Revolution Lipstick and lipgloss
This is full size and such a novel idea, lipstick with a twist off extra lipgloss. I'm not sure it's quite my colour but I'll give it a good go!  I guess this is the only downside of a box like this, at the moment it can't cater for personalisation like make-up preference.

Willie Cacao chocolate bar
I'm a sucker for chocolate and this one looks like it's going to be good!  It's not huge but looks high quality and will be perfect as a little treat.

Nip & Fab facial pads
5 pad sample, everyone raves about these so I'm excited to give them a try.

Body Shop moisture cream
This is a tiny sample but a nice little extra.

A small pin
Not sure I quite get this one so I'll maybe hold onto it and pop it in as a present to someone!

and the thing that made the whole box worth the money:

A full-size Imperial Candles bathbomb!
Have you heard about these? Every bathbomb contains a piece of jewellery guaranteed to be of value between £15 and £2000.  Aside from the fact I've never tried a bathbomb before (is it bad I worry about the state of the bath afterwards?!) I'm intrigued to see what mine will contain!

Like other boxes, the whole thing was packaged in a postal box and then wrapped in a lovely tissue paper.  Unlike other boxes this one came with a handwritten thank you note!  What a lovely touch to thank me for supporting this new box.  The note also asked for suggestions for future boxes and hinted at some of the exciting things to come.

Now, as you know, I tend to only a try a box for a month or two at the moment because I'm enjoying discovering all the new ones but I think, thanks to the fantastic customer service and intrigue for what's next, I'm going to stick with this one for a little bit.  I'm already excited to see what July is going to bring!

Birchbox - July 2017

I've uhmed and ahhed about posting this one, you know, if you haven't got something nice to say then you shouldn't say it kinda thing, but after seeing others be really disappointed with Birchbox and frequently seeing their offers designed to entice you in I've decided to put this out there. Maybe I'll return to them one day but this is where I'm at right now... I had a really bad month in July (seems to be a running theme at the moment, life is very trying right now) and, in a moment of weakness, I’m ashamed to say I fell for one of Birchboxes two for one offers.  These involve you purchasing their box of the month and them sending you a mystery box with another five items.  I partly justified this to myself because I fancied trying one of the products in July’s box and partly because I had a plan for the additional two drawer boxes they send their product in. I won’t be making the mistake again (seriously, I’ve even hidden them from my facebook feed beca...

Cheats Maltloaf

Ok, so it's not really a malt-loaf, but it does have the characteristics of one whilst being a super easy recipe and much nicer, in my opinion, to those shop bought lunch box ones you can get (and much healthier!)  I've been experimenting with this recipe for several months now and think I've finally cracked it.  Would love to hear your thoughts if you decide to give it a go! A post shared by Amy Elizabeth (@mummytreatsandtreasaures) on Jan 8, 2018 at 12:22pm PST Ingredients 1 cup of brewed Earl Grey tea 3 Wheatabix (or other such cereal - we quite like the Tesco own brand ones!) 1 cup of sultanas 1 tbsp honey (I've left this out before and it's still a nice cake just a bit more tart) 1 cup self raising flour 1 tsp baking powder Peel of one orange finally grated Splash of orange juice Method Place the sultanas, Weatabix (broken up), honey and tea in a bowl and mix Leave for at least two hours to soak (can leave in the fridge overnight if y...

Glossybox - January 2018

I think Glossybox is the one box I've stuck with longer than all the others and that's quite possibly because I'm still finding uses for the majority of the products they supply. This month is no different although it did come with quite a big let down, a box of multi nutritional supplements - something I can't take safely whilst breastfeeding my little one ☹️ That aside though, overall I'm still impressed with their box, enough that I'm going to keep the subscription going for another month! (Remember, if you do want to unsubscribe from Glossybox, you need to do so by the 14th of the month or you'll automatically roll your subscription over another month - I'm hearing rumours that it's also a lot less painless a process if you pay through PayPal!)
